FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW IS LIFE COACHING DIFFERENT FROM COUNSELING OR JUST TALKING WITH A BEST FRIEND?

Life coaching focuses on the present and the client’s future. Therapy or Counseling may explore the past to bring healing.  A Life coach facilitates personal growth and goal attainment quicker, easier, and more comfortably than going it alone. Most life coaching clients are emotionally healthy people who may feel stuck or want to make a change in their life so they can live a more fulfilling life.

Best friends know you well but they may be too emotionally involved in your life situations to be objective. They may withhold telling you the truth because they don’t want to risk losing the relationship they have with you.

“Coaching is an on-going intentional conversation that empowers a person or group to fully live out God’s calling.” (Keith Webb, Creative Results Management)

HOW IS LIFE COACHING DIFFERENT FROM MENTORING OR CONSULTING?

A Mentor shares wisdom from their personal experience, teaches, recommends and advises.

A consultant is a specialist who diagnoses the problem and then proposes a solution.

A Life Coach allows the client to set the agenda for the discussion and the coach asks questions to draw out the motivations, ideas, limiting beliefs and answers already within the client. The coach helps the client gain perspective and make new insights. Then the coach supports the client in creating an action plan to move forward toward their goals.

HOW DOES IT WORK IF I DON'T LIVE NEAR YOU?

Phone, skype, facetime, zoom make it possible to coach successfully without meeting in person.

Sometimes a phone call provides the ability to really focus on what is being said and the “distance” allows the client the freedom to tell the truth about their life.

Time zones are not a problem. We have successfully coached clients all over the world.

HOW DO I KNOW IF LIFE COACHING IS FOR ME?

Do you feel stuck? Do you find yourself wishing your life was different? Are you having difficulty navigating transitions? Do you long for deeper connections in your relationships? Do you struggle with time management or work-life balance? Do you have blind spots to what might be holding you back from living your best life? Are you a high performing individual who wants help achieving your goals?

Coaching can include (but is not limited to) personal growth, healthy lifestyle management, life balance, decision-making, transitions, relationship enhancement, career development, and achieving short-term or long-term goals of the client’s choosing.

“You will never maximize your potential in any area without coaching. It is impossible. You may be good. You may even be better than everyone else. But without outside input you will never be as good as you could be.”

                                           Andy Stanley, The Next Generation

DO MY VALUES AND BELIEFS NEED TO BE THE SAME AS THOSE OF MY COACH?

“Coaching assumes that each person in the relationship is guided by his or her values and beliefs. Your coach is a follower of Jesus Christ and seeks to live in accordance with this commitment. Your coach is honest in making this revelation and respects the different values and beliefs of others. Your coach does not seek to impose his or her values on another, proselytize, condemn, or refuse coaching services to people who do not share similar values and beliefs.”
